1 minute writer - WALLS

What walls do you want to knock down?

I'd like to knock down racial walls. Twice last week at work, I heard people make reference to the race of people they were talking about. Although there are times that mention of race might be pertinent, e.g., race can put a person in a higher risk category for certain diseases, in both of these cases it was not only unnecessary but inappropriate to mention race. Both times, race was used to "explain" the problems each person had experienced with the other person. For what it's worth, insofar as I could tell, the problems they were having had nothing to do with race. It will be a better world when all of us can get beyond this.

AMEN Sister! I took report from another nurse in ICU one night because mid shift this particular nurse didn't want to take care of the patient any more SIMPLY BECAUSE OF RACE!! I was furious when I realized the treatment she had given this patient. I don't think I'll ever get over that particular incident.

PS..I always am fascinated by the word verifications that pop up while commenting. Guess what the one is for this one? "rackes" take out the k! wow, isn't the universe so cool

That was the complaint of one of my colleagues. She had a doctor whom she didn't want to treat her because of his race! Amazing (but not in a good way).

Yes, those word verification things are sometimes eerie!
