Scalzi's Monday Photo Shoot: Before & After

We had a house fire in October, 2002, when a small fan, left running, shorted out. We were out to dinner when it happened, so luckily, no one was hurt, but we had major damage to the house and in fact came close to losing it. The photo on the left was taken in my front hall, looking into my dining room, on the day after the fire. The photo on the right was taken this evening. It's a dramatic difference, huh? The stairs still aren't finished, in part because I've been trying to decide whether to tile them or put in hardwood (they were previously carpeted).

Wow, amazing pics.

Alexis wanted to do wood stairs with a carpet runner but the cost was prohibitive....holy smokes! (no pun intended)

Wow! That must be a relief, to have the house recover from the fire so well. I'm sure it must have taken a lot of time and effort and money (yours or the insurance company's or both), but it was wrth it.

One of my co-workers had a major house fire a month ago with nobody home. I hope her house comes back from the fire as well as yours has!

This is so scary! It looks so beautiful now. You all did a lot of work and it has paid off. Glad you didn't lose the house.

I'm so glad nobody was hurt. And I say hardwood on the stairs but that's just my opinion. ~ Antonette

Wow you wouldn't even know there was a fire. I would go with wood for the stairs less slippery. *Hugs* Marina

Okay...now I know WHY I feel compelled to turn off and unplug everything before I leave the house. Nothing like being forced to remodel.... Lisa :-]

how terrifying fire can be and yet how soothing we find it when it's contained in a fireplace or fire pit.

The transformation is amazing... it must have been alot of work, but well worth it for the final result ! tina

I've done a lot of the work myself, in part because of a CONtractor who made off with a fair amount of the insurance money (don't ask), and thus there is still some work (e.g., the stairs) that remains to be done. But bit by bit, it's coming along.

WOW! How beautiful! How much of this did you do yourself? I know you do a lot of redecorating.

One of my BIGGEST fears...a fire. Thankfully you were not home.
